Physical Therapist

Shana studied Movement Science at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago with her Doctorate in Physical Therapy. She was introduced to the world of physical therapy when she needed therapy herself following sports injuries. She has always known that she wanted to go into healthcare, and when she found physical therapy it was the perfect fit. Entering physical therapy school, she was planning on a career in outpatient orthopedics, until she had her first pediatrics class. She has always enjoyed working with children, including coaching youth soccer and volunteering as a coach for Special Olympics gymnastics. She chose to complete her first two-week clinical in an outpatient pediatric setting. She loved it, and she has not looked back.

When she returned to school, she looked for other opportunities to further her interest in pediatrics, taking both of the pediatric electives offered at her school, completing another 12 week clinical in pediatrics, and applying to the Illinois LEND program, an interdisciplinary leadership training program, with a focus on neurodevelopmental and related disorders. She has thoroughly enjoyed working with kids and giving them the best care possible, by collaborating with their families and other therapists. She has loved being able to watch the children that she treats grow and develop in the clinic, school, and home setting. She has found that the opportunity to impact the life of a child is most rewarding. A fun fact about her is that she loves to travel, and she has been lucky enough to travel to six continents! She is still working on Antarctica.
